Island Bequia's gentle climate makes for
wonderful vacations throughout the year. Located far enough south, to
lie outside the hurricane belt, it is a safe destination even in summer
and early fall. An independent Bequia is the largest of the Grenadine islands, at approximately seven square miles. Browse the maps below to familiarize yourself with this part of the Caribbean. Much of life on the island revolves around the sea. Boat building and whaling are traditional trades in Bequia. Though the boat building is all but gone, you can still see colorful Bequia-built sailing and fishing boats near the shore in Port Elizabeth, the main harbor of the island.
HAPPY
DIVERSIONS Air taxis can take you for day trips to other Antilles. The clear water, great visibility and plentiful, pristine reefs of the National Undersea Park around Bequia make for great scuba diving and snorkeling. Local dive shops offer guided tours. After you've dried off, you can go for a delicious local meal at one of the varied restaurants and pick up a few souvenirs at the many colorful boutiques, or an artistic model boat at one of the local workshops. You can shop at the open-air vegetable market and cook your own Caribbean feast back at the Ocean Breeze Villa. Don't miss attending a "Jump-Up". It's a party with live music often a steel band and dancing, which are held nightly at different venues around the island. There certainly is no shortage of fun activities on beautiful Bequia, but once you discover the Ocean Breeze Villa, you may have a hard time pulling yourself away from lounging by the pool or reading a good book under a tree in our tropical gardens. |
